Mirasol to Last the Battery 8 Days Long

Thanks to a technology similar to butterfly wings, the display for handheld devices can be more energy efficient. Even more efficient than e-ink technology available today. Technology called Mirasol that mimic the workings of butterfly wings in a display color, by reflected light.

Technology has been introduced by Qualcomm. Thanks to technology, 'the butterfly', the Mirasol screen does not require light from behind (backlight) to strengthen the screen like most LCD. This makes them more energy efficient.

In fact, Qualcomm Mirasol dare to claim more energy efficient than e-Ink technology used on the Kindle gadget from Amazon. In the same use, E-Ink last 7.3 days on a single battery charge while Mirasol able to transcend them to 8.6 days.

Mirasol-based gadget plans would be presented before the end of 2010. No news in more detail about the plan, but Qualcomm has been showing off prototypes of gadgets that use screen-based Mirasol.

Flexible Electronic Screen

The screens on laptops, televisions, mobile phones and so on have got sharper, wider and thinner. They are about to get thinner still, but with a new twist. By using flexible components, these screens will also become bendy. Some could even be rolled up and slipped into your pocket like a piece of electronic paper. These thin sheets of plastic will be able to display words and images; a book, perhaps, or a newspaper or a magazine. And now it looks as if they might be mass produced in much the same way as the printed paper they are emulating.
